Arnold Manoff

American screenwriter (1914–1965)

Arnold Manoff was a prominent American screenwriter and novelist, active in the field of literature during the mid-20th century. Born in 1914, he established himself as a talented writer, producing works for both film and television. However, his career was significantly impacted by the blacklist imposed on him in the 1950s, which prohibited him from working openly in the industry.

Despite this setback, Manoff continued to write, using pseudonyms and "fronts" to sell his scripts. One of the pseudonyms he used was "Joel Carpenter". His experiences during this period of blacklisting later served as an inspiration for the 1976 film The Front. Manoff's determination to persevere in his craft is a testament to his dedication as a writer. He passed away in 1965, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.
