Jacob Schaefer was a Russian-American composer who made significant contributions to the music scene from the 1910s to the 1930s. Born in 1888, he was a Jewish immigrant who went on to become a prominent figure in the American music community. As a composer, Schaefer's works included cantatas, oratorios, and song arrangements that were widely performed by various ensembles.
Schaefer's career was marked by his commitment to social activism, particularly in his later years when he became a devoted Communist. He founded and directed several workers' orchestras and choirs in major cities like Chicago and New York, notably the Freiheit Gezang Farein. He passed away in 1936, at the age of 48.
