Goddard Lieberson
American recording executive (1911–1977)
Goddard Lieberson was a prominent American recording executive, born in 1911. His career in the music industry was marked by significant leadership roles, including his tenure as president of Columbia Records, a position he held from 1956 to 1971 and again from 1973 to 1975. In addition to his work at Columbia Records, Lieberson also served as the president of the Recording Industry Association of America, beginning in 1964.
Beyond his executive roles, Lieberson was also a composer. He pursued his musical education at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he studied under the guidance of George Frederick McKay. In his personal life, Lieberson married Vera Zorina in 1946, and the couple had two children together. Lieberson's life and career spanned multiple facets of the music industry, from composition to executive leadership, leaving a lasting impact until his passing in 1977.
