Dmitri Bashkirov was a renowned Russian pianist and educator, born in 1931. His musical training took place in Tbilisi and Moscow, laying the foundation for his future career. A pivotal moment in his career came in 1955 when he emerged as the winner of the prestigious Marguerite Long Piano Competition in Paris, catapulting him to international recognition as a soloist.

Bashkirov's teaching career spanned multiple decades and institutions. From 1957 to 1991, he was a faculty member at the esteemed Moscow Conservatory. Subsequently, he joined the Queen Sofia College of Music in Madrid, where he taught from 1991 until his passing in 2021. Throughout his career, he also had the opportunity to share his expertise as a guest teacher at various international conservatories. As a proponent of the Russian piano school, Bashkirov left an indelible mark on the world of music through his performances and pedagogical contributions.
