Iso Szajewicz
Polish Jewish conductor and composer
Iso Szajewicz was a Polish Jewish conductor and composer, born in 1910 in Kutno, Poland. His early life was marked by a connection to the performing arts, as his parents, Dineh and Józef Szajewicz, were Yiddish actors who traveled with a Jewish theatre troupe. Following his parents' example, Szajewicz was raised by his step-father, Avrom Kurtz, also an actor.
Szajewicz's entry into the world of music was self-directed, as he taught himself music theory and practice during his youth. Before pursuing a career in music, he worked as a hairdresser. Despite his unconventional start, Szajewicz went on to become a notable figure in Polish music, working as a composer and conductor until his death in 1941.
