Julia Frankau was a British novelist who achieved success in the literary field during her lifetime. Born in 1859, she went on to become a prolific writer, publishing her first novel, Dr. Phillips: A Maida Vale Idyll, in 1887 under the pseudonym Frank Danby. This initial work sparked controversy due to its portrayal of London's Jewish community and a sensational plot involving a doctor committing murder.

Frankau continued to write novels under the Frank Danby name, while also exploring other subjects, including engraving. She occasionally used her own name for these non-fiction works, demonstrating her versatility as an author. Throughout her career, Frankau maintained a steady output of writings until her death in 1916.
