Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was a renowned Italian-Jewish composer, pianist, and writer, born in 1895. He is particularly notable for his contributions to the guitar repertoire, having composed nearly one hundred works for the instrument, which earned him recognition as one of the leading guitar composers of the twentieth century. His musical talents extended beyond composition, as he was also an accomplished pianist.

Castelnuovo-Tedesco's career took a significant turn in 1939 when he emigrated to the United States. Upon settling in the US, he began working as a film composer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, contributing music to over 200 Hollywood films throughout the next fifteen years. In addition to his work in film, he also composed concertos for notable musicians, including Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, further solidifying his position as a prominent figure in the music world. He passed away in 1968, leaving behind a legacy of diverse and prolific compositions.
