Vasily Grossman

Vasily Grossman was a Soviet writer and journalist, born in 1905 to a Jewish family in Ukraine, which was then part of the Russian Empire. Initially, he pursued a career in chemical engineering, studying at Moscow State University where his dedication earned him the nickname Vasya-khimik. After completing his education, Grossman worked in Stalino, located in the Donets Basin, applying his skills as a chemical engineer.

Grossman's career took a significant turn in the 1930s when he decided to dedicate himself to writing full-time. This transition led to the publication of numerous short stories and several novels, marking the beginning of his literary career. Through his writings, Grossman established himself as a notable figure in Soviet literature, leaving a lasting impact on the field. He continued to write until his death in 1964, leaving behind a body of work that reflects his unique perspective and experiences.
